Costa Rica's biological diversity includes an extraordinary richness of amphibians (frogs, toads, salamanders, and caecilians), but the country has a size of just 51,023 square kilometers.  With 188 species of amphibians,  it is the richest country in the world regarding amphibian diversity density, with 3.68 species of amphibians per 1,000 square kilometers of national territory.  Many of these amphibians are struggling to survive in the ever-changing environment and their future remains uncertain.

The Costa Rican Amphibian Research Center (C.R.A.R.C.) is a conservational and biological research center dedicated to studying and conserving one of the most important animal groups of Neotropical humid forest ecosystems, that of the amphibians.  The work being done there is an effort to ensure that they will experience a brighter and more secure future.

Our  Research Center is the

first of its kind in Costa Rica
